Biography

Ken Black, PLCGS

I was born and raised in in a small town in the Philadelphia suburbs and moved to Florida in 2015. I am a father and stepfather to seven children and three grandchildren and have been doing genealogy for over 30 years. I have completed genealogy courses through Boston University and the American Genealogical Studies through the National Genealogical Society. In 2023 I received my post graduate diploma from the University of Strathclyde in Genealogical, Paleographic & Heraldic Studies.

I found out I was adopted when I was 21 years old and only briefly met my biological father before he passed away. Unfortunately, I was never able to connect with family members from my paternal side of my family and only knew brief bits of information about them. I had a few names and possible locations going back to the early 1970s and met a half-brother briefly on one occasion before my biological father passed. When DNA became more readily available to the masses, I was able to track down several first cousins and help another adoptee cousin figure out her biological father and connection to my family.

In thinking back about my own life, I always wondered how things might have turned out if he had these connections decades ago. I am fascinated in the process of helping others make that connection, so they do not miss out on those moments. In May of 2021 I joined the team at SearchAngels.org and volunteer my time in helping other adoptees locate and connect to their missing families.

Throughout my life I have always worked hard and applied myself fully to everything I have ever done. I have a background in manufacturing and production that has always been tied to technology in some aspect or another and I have always been self-taught when encountering new endeavors. My work history and ethics are crucial qualifications for any researcher in the field of genealogy.

Passion for family history and genealogy is something I live and breathe daily, which is difficult to convey in a short biography. If passion, along with work ethic, is a large part of the type of researcher you are looking to hire I would welcome further correspondence to evaluate your needs.
